Our History
|
| BFC Auto Body and Trim Shop, Inc. is owned by Bob and
Irma Vallandingham, the original owners. The doors were opened in November 1965.
Thirty-five years later BFC is still a landmark at the corner of Fifteenth Street
and Madison Avenue in Covington, Kentucky. Customers come from all over the
Tri-State area to get their cars and trucks repaired. Bob and Irma thank the Lord
for the many blessings they have received down through the years and for a Christian lady,
Hilda Necamp, who financed the beginning operation. (Click

1960's: The Talsol
Company introduced a new product called Mar-Hyde, a liquid vinyl to
recondition or change colors of all types of vinyl, such as
convertible and vinyl tops, vinyl seats, door panels and
dashboards. BFC took a 1962 Buick convertible with blue vinyl
interior and white convertible top and sprayed half the interior and
half of the top black. The Buick certainly got a lot of
attention in those days.
|
1970's: BFC decided it needed
something that would uniquely identify BFC from other body shops. Since BFC was the
only shop in the area that did both body and interior work, the idea of a "before and
after" car was put in motion. A rusty 1968 Dodge with faded blue paint was
reconditioned right down the center of the car, including rechroming half of the bumpers
and painting half the engine. The Dodge looked like a show car on the driver's side
and a bucket of junk on the other side. The "before and after" car was
shown in malls, at the Cavalcade of Custom Cars show at the Cincinnati Convention Center,
at the Richwood Flea Market (one of the largest in the Midwest) and at all the local
county fairs. The car sat on the corner of Fifteenth Street and Madison Avenue in
Covington and the local people would bring their out of town relatives and friends to see
it. Even today, after the car has been retired for several years, mention BFC in the
greater Cincinnati area and people will say that's the shop which had the "before and
after" car. We still get a new customer now and then from the "before and
after" car. The car certainly gave us our identity. |
1980's: BFC was one of the first shops in the area to mix our own paint to
get a perfect match. Kentucky Motors set-up our mixing booth using DuPont paint,
which we still use today. |
Today: As you can see on our "Let's Get Aquatinted" homepage, we
have dedicated employees who take great pride in their work. This led to our motto,
"Pride In Our Work." That's a little bit of our history. Now, what
can we do for you today? (Click here for a special offer!) |
